The Digital Communications Specialist supports the Marketing & Communications team to meet the overall digital communication needs of Woodward, with primary responsibility for updating content of all external websites, portals, and social media platforms, in addition to managing the Academy’s email systems. The Digital Communications Specialist will report to the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications.
Website - 45%
Our ideal candidate knows their way around a CMS (you don’t need to know how to code, but bonus if you do!) and has an eye for creating effective landing pages that encourage people to click or engage.
Make daily updates and oversee general maintenance of the Academy’s website (Finalsite CMS and Hubspot) and parent portal (Veracross) to ensure content is current.
Provide timely support, responses, and training to campus web editors and internal stakeholders.
Create effective landing pages on Finalsite and within Hubspot for specific campaigns and events.
Correct basic desktop and mobile aspects of site content, design, and functionality to improve overall performance and user experience.
Serve as primary liaison with Finalsite to troubleshoot and resolve website-related issues and ensure that the website aligns with the overall digital engagement strategy.
Social Media Content Creation - 35%
We’re looking for a social media enthusiast who has experience telling a brand’s story across social media platforms, stays on top of emerging social trends, and is comfortable engaging with audiences.
Develop an annual social media plan, leveraging data and insights provided by the Marketing Strategist, to support the Academy’s overall communications strategy.
Write content and design social media posts and graphics, engage with audiences in a timely manner, and use sound judgment in posting and responding to reflect school culture and values.
Cover campus events to share on social media.
Email Creation, Management & Distribution - 20%
We’re a large community and therefore, have a lot of emails to distribute. Our ideal candidate has experience with email design, creating e-newsletters, and list management and segmentation.
Design and distribute Academy-wide emails in Mailchimp and Veracross, including weekly and monthly community e-newsletters.
Manage email distribution lists.
Troubleshoot issues with email for internal stakeholders.
An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Two years of relevant work experience (digital media, website content management, and/or social media management preferred).
Robust experience working with social media and an understanding of best practices and trends to tell the #woodwardway story.
Ability to create effective, on-brand graphics for various social media platforms.
Demonstrated experience working with a web CMS.
Highly organized, efficient, with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing. Must be able to work with a diverse group of people and explain technical concepts in user-friendly terms.
Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to multitask. Strong customer service mentality with a “can-do” approach.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications.
Understanding of the education industry.
Familiarity working with the full Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience working with Finalsite, Wordpress, Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Veracross. HTML experience is a plus.
Intermediate knowledge and experience working with Photoshop or a similar photo editing platform.
An understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.
Project management experience.
The Digital Communications Specialist position is an exempt, salaried, 12-month position. The Marketing & Communications team works on site at the College Park campus.
