Position Overview: As the strategic leader for Wentworth of Technology website, you will plan, develop and direct comprehensive website projects that result in a creative, modern, intuitive and accessible customer-focused user experience on our website(s) to support the goals of the university. Your primary goal is to partner closely with a wide range of stakeholders in enrollment, advancement, academics, and other departments across the university, to develop strategies and execute website tactics and content to educate, engage, and convert website visitors into future graduates, donors, or corporate partners.
Reporting to the AVP Marketing and Communications,the Director, Website will take part in planning and will lead the management of Wentworth Institute of Technology’s website(s) to support our enrollment, advancement, and institutional goals for the University. This is a high visibility role for Wentworth, and we are looking for a positive team player to partner with the AVP Marketing and Communications to manage our site within the institution. This is a player/coach role, where you will lead a small team, and also personally execute and work on initiatives to always be improving our website experience.
We are looking for someone to guide strategy and lead execution of wit.edu and manage a small team that will create content, improve navigation, and create engaging experiences to support our key stakeholders across the university.
You will directly manage a Digital Marketing Content Specialist and a Web Developer, and own the day to day relationship with our primary web agency, and other supporting vendors. This role requires someone who wants to coach a team and develop a center of excellence, and knows how to both provide leadership, develop trust with stakeholders, and be part of a culture where collaboration is ingrained in everything we do.
This role requires a consultative, collaborative approach as you partner with many stakeholders and content authors across the university. We employ a content strategy where we enable other departments to create content directly, with major content being built by your team. We support a balanced, de-centralized strategy to enable Subject Matter Experts to dynamically bring content to life on the site, while collaborating and guiding them to ensure it is done with website best practices and branding in mind. You bring confident, but approachable leadership to your role as the senior most website expert within the Wentworth community.
You will work closely with enrollment, academic, and advancement teams to analyze data trends and conversation rates to make recommendations on website and potentially other adjustments. You should bring conversion rate optimization tactics to the team, and have a deep understanding of the necessary site modification to optimize content for SEO.
Your role will be to create the right dashboards to ensure we are managing our website as a key strategic marketing resource. You will create an environment where we are continuously optimizing the site and monitoring and maximizing traffic, as you would a high functioning e-commerce storefront. You will personally work on, or direct, every major website content push, navigation modification, and be responsible for managing our website experience for multiple stakeholders across the university.
You will closely partner with the Director of Demand Generation to ensure digital campaigns are always aligned with site content, and vice versa. You will closely partner with the Director of Content, to ensure creativity is maximized across all our platforms (site, social, marketing, printed collateral) and on brand.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing a website, and has built systems, tools, and dashboards to monitor and own website performance (both technical i.e. speed, broken links, etc. as well as from a conversion/sales standpoint). The candidate should also understand the necessary data systems, tags, and back-office mechanisms to link media and website activities and conversions.
Marketing and Communications has a flexible team and work environment, where we are on campus 2-3 days a week, and work from home 2-3 days a week. Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Always be testing. Always be optimizing our approach through experimentation, A/B testing on site, UX testing, and other methodologies.
With the team, manage the day-to-day operations, content, and strategy of our website.
Partnering with the AVP Marketing, establish clear, regular metrics for success and create the data reporting structure, to enable performance dashboards that can be shared with university leadership.
Provide thought leadership, strategic recommendations, and competitive assessments that elevate our wit.edu website and differentiate us from key competitors.
Manage digital platforms such as landing pages, blog/news sites, virtual tour platforms and related website work.
Directly manage and coach our digital content specialist, web developer, and digital agency and vendors. Be a caring and thoughtful support partner to all.
Ensure our website design and content is current, dynamic, easy to navigate, and optimized for the customer journey of multiple different audiences (high school students, graduate students, alumni, industry, faculty, etc.)
Collaborate with team members and IT to architect and implement a technology stack of integrated marketing and digital tools to engage audiences across different channels.
Develop and work with the web team to create wireframes, concept design mockups, and produce clickable prototypes to illustrate design approaches, gain stakeholder buy-in, and ultimately, drive audience engagement to continuously improve UX.
Integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into every aspect of our website, content, and strategy. Ensure our site is ADA web compliant and accessible to all audiences.
This role is part of a small, but mighty team that we are building. We all roll up our sleeves, so the ability to pivot from strategic to tactical, and support and learn about other new marketing tactics as opportunities present themselves is needed.
Minimum of 8 years experience in designing, developing, and managing a website.
Experience managing an e-commerce website is preferred.
Higher Education marketing experience is preferred.
Ideally, bring at least 3+ years of managing staff directly.
Minimum of 3 years managing and organizing website content to support content management system development—specifically in Drupal—to organize content for optimal display on desktop and mobile devices is required.
Experience working with developers, or external development teams is preferred.
Ideally, some direct experience in coding HTML and CSS in a CMS. We’re currently using Drupal 8 as a platform.
Experience working with web operations platforms, like Pantheon is preferred.
Deep Experience with creating web-related analytic recommendations using tools like (Google Analytics, SiteImprove, BrightEdge) to leadership to help make the most informed decisions related to site content, management, and any digital marketing efforts is required.
