The manager should have a deep knowledge of developing trends in digital marketing and communications and user behavior, with strong systems thinking capabilities and solid understanding of emerging business models and what is coming next in digital media. A key component of the position is strong project management skills, including budgetary skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities at once.
The ideal individual must understand digital technology and how it can be leveraged to deliver marketing and communications results for the Department of Surgery, including clinical volume growth, research communications, public and community education, fundraising and brand advancement locally, regionally and nationally.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Marketing Services
Coordination of all marketing activities related to major clinical programs and new initiatives as defined by the Chairman. Specific responsibilities include: development of marketing plans; development of marketing budgets.
Coordination of advertisements and media communication related to new faculty, new clinical practice offices and/or new clinical programs and initiatives.
Electronic Marketing
Coordinates the creation and design of the Departmentâ™s web page as a key component of the Departmentâ™s overall marketing strategy.
Works with technical support staff on the Washington University Manual of Medical Therapeutics.
Works with the technical support staff to update and maintain the web page.
Media Relations and Representation
All of these functions are to be performed in conjunction with the Medical School Public Affairs Office.
Serves as Communication Coordinator for the Department.
Serves as Liaison with Medical School Public Affairs, BJH and BJC Media offices.
Serves as information clearing house for developments in Research, Teaching and Clinical Care activities passing on to Medical Public Affairs any information that could increase the Departmentâ™s local, national and international media coverage.
Maintains awareness of Stark regulations and complies with regulations in all referring relationship development activities.
Market Research
Maintains market research information via a database of Department sub-specialty practices within the local and regional geographic area.
Maintains market data on general trends in the healthcare market.
Marginal or Non Essential Functions
Promotes and maintains network of contacts with Washington University Medical Center and the University.
Performs other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
Five to seven years of experience.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment effectively in decision making processes and planning.
Masters excellent oral and written skills.
Communicates in an amiable yet effective manner.
Maintains a professional demeanor with faculty, administrative and clerical personnel as well as with physicians and contacts at other institutions.
Ability to exercise diplomacy.
Gathers and analyzes information in a proficient and creative manner.
Literate in personal computers and related software.
Ability to translate computer abilities to productivity gains.
Understanding of current and emerging best practices.
Experience working with responsive design, mobile technology and search engine marketing; experience working with consultants on website development from research to launch.
Exceptionally strong analytical skills and proven capability to use data to drive business decisions and marketing optimization.
Experience managing social marketing channels.
Previous experience in leading a team of technical digital marketing professionals.
Experience with managing budgets and having a proven record of demonstrating strong return on investment.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities, deadlines and deliverables simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field with five plus years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling nine years.

Salary Range
$57,300.00 - $97,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
