Position Objective Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist will support the ongoing programs of Four County EMC by developing and executing marketing and communications strategies that enhance community engagement and cooperative relations. The role involves creating and managing public relations initiatives, overseeing community programs, organizing special events, and contributing to both traditional and digital communication channels.
- Education
A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in community outreach, marketing, communications, or public relations is preferred.
- Strong communication and community engagement skills are essential.
- Experience in digital media, including social media management and content creation, is preferred.
- Solid skills in photography, videography, and multimedia presentation development are desirable.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, website management, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
III. Mental and Physical Requirements
The mental and physical requirements for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, members, and the public.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, telephones, and other necessary tools for data input and communication.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the capacity to evaluate obstacles, make decisions, and develop solutions independently.
- A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required, along with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Regular and predictable attendance is essential for this position.

VII. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Member Programs (40%)
- Serve as Trust Administrator for the Operation Round-Up Program, managing applications, board meetings, minutes, and financial reports.
- Administer the Bright Ideas program, coordinating with educators, school administrators, and judges.
- Coordinate the Youth Leadership Weekend, including location, speaker arrangements, and scholarship management.
- Manage the Co-op Connections member benefit program, recruiting local businesses and developing promotional materials.
- Support and innovate public relations initiatives through various communication channels.
- Communications (20%)
- Assist in maintaining the cooperative’s external website and internal SharePoint site.
- Assist in producing marketing materials, including signage, brochures, advertisements, and digital content.
- Assist in creating, editing, and proofreading content for various communication channels targeting members and media.
- Help manage social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement.
- Assist in implementing digital marketing campaigns, including email marketing and online advertising.
- Develop multimedia presentations and videos for both internal and external audiences.
- Responsible for photography and videography, including editing content for various platforms.
- Support crisis communications during storms and other events.
- Special Events (20%)
- Organize and coordinate company participation in community events, such as festivals, community meetings, and annual meetings.
- Engage with community organizations to build relationships and foster cooperative support.
- Represent the cooperative in local civic organizations.
- Administrative Duties (20%)
- Prepare disbursements for community funding purposes.
- Monitor and analyze program and event metrics, generating reports to support department activities.
- Provide administrative support for department activities, ensuring smooth operation and program effectiveness.

- Collaborate with staff across departments to share information, encourage involvement, and enhance the cooperative’s community presence.
- Foster positive employee morale by promoting active participation in programs and events.
- External
- Maintain friendly, cooperative relationships with members and the general public, ensuring positive interactions and fostering community support.
- Engage with members to gather feedback, assess satisfaction, and identify areas for improvement.
