The University of Tennessee Southern enthusiastically invites applications for the Graphic Designer position with the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing.
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the graphic designer is the creative director and senior brand officer of the University of Tennessee Southern and has responsibility for all graphic design work -- working collaboratively with campus stakeholders to assess needs and objectives designed to achieve strategic goals and developing materials to achieve those goals. The graphic designer will serve as the front-line resource to create branded collateral for effective campaign promotions while also managing social media and omni- channel implementation that puts UT Southern at a new advantage in a competitive landscape to properly support market positioning and enrollment growth. As the graphic designer this role is responsible for strategic development and design of all visual collateral - across mediums - within brand guidelines for distribution across owned, earned, and paid platforms. As the graphic designer this role is responsible for leading and administering the digital advertising implementation by positioning the brand online and in paid outlets through social and website strategy, paid media buys, and content marketing. The role also oversees the production of printed merchandise and promotional items distributed on behalf of UT Southern, overall visual communications, including the development and implementation of campus-wide communications strategies, and all social/digital media developed and published. In addition, the graphic designer will implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to achieve campus goals and enhance UT Southern's statewide and regional reputation. This position will also be responsible for ongoing management and long-term enhancement of our brand with focus on driving recruitment and retention, student and community engagement, and brand affinity. As a marketing leader, they will deliver story-centric campaigns across multiple channels and touchpoints, with a focus on strong visual design delivered through omni-channel pathways. This role requires a passion for delivering measurable results, a commitment to action- oriented analysis, and a keen focus on the audience both external and internal. This is a highly motivated, creative individual with experience in developing creative collateral and knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing.
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following- Leads evolving strategy and creation of scalable concepts and design systems that bring the brand to life
- Provides art direction, design and oversight of all collaterals and campaign.
- Ensures all designs contribute to the achievement of project-specific and overarching marketing and communications goals, adhere to brand standards and comply with accessibility requirements
- Partners with the Vice Chancellor to produce designs for marketing and advertising campaigns that increase brand awareness
- Partners with internal and external teams to create and maintain the visual identity of sub-brands and brand extensions
- Creates various designs for print and electronic use that promote the university visually to internal and external audiences
- Designs may range from small-scale updates of existing templates to large-scale original designs including informational handouts, presentations, reports, event materials, newsletters, building signage, advertisements, and social media campaigns
- Works with team members to prioritize, assign and manage workflow that ensures the efficiency and success of the internal agency
- Engages and oversees the work of contract designers, photographers, illustrators, etc. as needed
- Translates strategic institutional objectives into focused, effective, and measurable communication strategies for multiple, diverse audiences.
- Provide analysis of content performance across digital and traditional channels
- Utilize results metrics to test, learn, and apply to future campaigns to maximize performance
- Work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
