POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of integrated marketing campaigns for NPMA's membership, meetings, and services. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance NPMA's marketing initiatives, with particular emphasis on marketing 10+ events each year, including PestWorld, NPMA's flagship event with approximately 4,000 attendees. The Associate Director will develop strategic plans to increase member awareness and engagement, collaborate with department staff and internal clients, and work in partnership with the membership team and other programmatic areas (including certification, technical resources, and workforce development). The Associate Director will collaborate closely with the VP of Marketing and Communications to align marketing efforts with the association's strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning & Collaboration
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies and promotional campaigns
- Work collaboratively with marketing team members and other departments to ensure successful implementation of marketing initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of marketing initiatives with organizational goals
Event & Program Marketing
- Lead the strategic marketing for NPMA's 10+ annual events, with primary responsibility for PestWorld (4,000 attendees) and other major conferences
- Develop comprehensive marketing plans with timelines, audience segmentation, and multi-channel promotion strategies for all events
- Create and manage event-specific campaigns that drive registration, sponsorship, and exhibitor participation
- Collaborate with the meetings team to ensure marketing materials accurately represent event content and value
- Analyze past event performance data to refine marketing strategies and improve attendance and engagement
Marketing Implementation
- Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns across multiple channels (email, social media, print, digital)
- Develop sophisticated audience segmentation strategies to target communications effectively
- Create and implement methods for tracking and evaluating success and impact of marketing strategies
- Assist VP in the management and optimization of the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for all marketing initiatives
Content Development & Brand Management
- Oversee the creation of high-quality, strategic content for newsletters, emails, print collateral, and social media
- Ensure brand consistency across all marketing materials and communications
- Work with external vendors and partners to execute marketing initiatives as needed
Collaborative Program Support
- Work in partnership with the Membership Department on member recruitment, engagement, and retention campaigns
- Additional duties may include supporting certification programs, technical resources, and workforce development initiatives through targeted marketing strategies
- Serve as community manager for members-only community website, including monitoring forum discussions
- Support NPMA Committees and Interest Groups as needed
- Analyze engagement metrics across program areas and offer marketing recommendations to improve participation
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related discipline required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of seven (7) years experience in marketing, communications, or related field
- Trade association experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in marketing events, particularly conferences or large-scale industry events
- Proven track record developing and implementing strategic marketing campaigns that drive engagement
- Experience working collaboratively across departments and with diverse internal clients
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web applications
- Experience with content management systems required, Umbraco preferred
- Experience with marketing automation systems required, Hubspot preferred
- Experience with association management systems required, Aptify preferred
- Knowledge of digital marketing platforms, SEO, and social media management preferred
- Adobe Creative Suite knowledge preferred
- Experience with project management tools, Airtable preferred
- Data analysis skills and experience working with marketing metrics and KPIs
