The Director of Athletics Communications & Brand Strategy at ORU leads comprehensive communications efforts for the Athletics department, serving as the primary media contact for Men’s Basketball and other assigned sports. This role oversees all facets of communications/public relations to ORU athletic events, including, but not limited to, providing in-game statistics, social media generation, content creation, fulfilling interview requests and website upkeep. This position plays a key role in shaping and promoting the ORU Athletics brand through consistent, engaging, and strategic storytelling across multiple platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a liaison between the athletic department and all media outlets
- Write and edit news releases, media guides, and game notes
- Oversee and perform/assign game-day operations related to media, press box, scorer’s table, game statistics, online streaming, and pre/postgame press conferences for assigned sports
- Maintain statistics, records, and photo archives
- Manage and edit the Oral Roberts University Athletics website
- Develop and manage the athletic department's digital marketing efforts and campaigns
- Coordinate, alongside External Operations staff, the development, and implementation of marketing campaigns
- Collaborate with the University's Office of Communications
- Manage athletic department's brand guidelines and strategy, including digital marketing efforts and campaigns
- Maintain compliance with all NCAA, Summit League Conference, and institutional regulations
- Primary contact for Men's basketball and other selected sports
- Travel with the Men's basketball team as the primary contact
- Assist the director in planning and organizing all phases of Division I sports information department
- Will be involved in special fundraising events such as Courtside Countdown and Diamond Dinner. Will also be involved in the annual Hall of Fame induction process.
- Frequent night and weekend work is required. Travel may be required on occasion.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, sport management or a related field is required
- 1-2 years of sports information/public relations experience
- Understanding of statistical software including NCAA Live Stats and/or Stat Crew.
- Proven ability to handle high-stress situations and juggle multiple responsibilities
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills are needed
- Familiarity and/or proficiency with using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, etc.)
- Must have a solid understanding of the benefits of social media and understanding of content creation.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Familiar with photography and has an understanding of content creation.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing.
- Ability to make independent decisions and judgments on administrative and procedural issues.
- Ability to analyze facts to determine actions to be taken within the limits of standard practice.
